Joyaux Renaissance

Une splendeur retrouvée

September 1—30, 2000

Galerie Kugel, Paris

The ambition of the exhibition “Joyaux Renaissance” was to rediscover the field of Renaissance jewels, in collaboration with Dr Rudolf Distelberger, Assistant Director of the Kunstkammer du Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, and Michèle Bimbenet-Privat, Chief Curator in France. These jewels, from the 13th century to the end of the 17th century, are sometimes subtle and delicate, and sometimes ostentatious, composed of elaborate emblems, with architectural, animal or vegetal forms, a profusion of enameled gold with dazzling colors, Baroque pearls or diamonds. These jewels are the reflection of the persons who ordered them and show their personality. Made of precious materials, they were the powerful and princes’ privilege and punctuated their life: christening medals, wedding necklaces, clothes ornaments, crosses…
